PETREE is a free resource circulation platform that helps you to check carbon emissions, tree planting effects, and R-PET clothing production effects by collecting PET bottles and recycling them as resources.
PET bottles are one of the most used plastics along with PP (polypropylene). PET is light, transparent and strong, so it can be used in a variety of ways, such as bottled water, beverages, and take-out glasses.
This plastic bottle recycling method can be used as recycled fiber for clothing (R-PET Fiber), PET bottles, short fibers (short yarns such as cotton), sheets, etc. According to the Ministry of Environment, the actual recycled amount of plastic bottles in Korea is about 10%.
As a result, did you know that 95% of PET bottles made from recycled fibers in Korea are imported from Japan and Taiwan? In general, it is easy to think that PET bottles are separated for reasons such as labeling and uncleaning of PET bottles, but the real reason is different.
In fact, the materials of PET bottles are so different that it is difficult to recycle them. PET bottles are made of various materials to withstand pressure and temperature depending on the content they contain, such as mineral water, carbonated water, and beverages. As a result, each PET bottle has different melting temperature and viscosity.
To simply explain why, if there is a process of heating to a high temperature, such as orange juice, it is pre-heated to prevent deformation, and carbonated drinks are made of a Pressure Resistance material to withstand pressure. In addition, because the manufacturing process for take-out glasses is different from PET bottles, PETG is used, which is completely different from PET, and PETG is not suitable for long fibers for clothing because it is short-cut.
PETREE provides information on the amount of CO2 reduced through resource recycling activities, tree planting effect, and R-PET clothing production effect to citizens who act sensitively to the environment. You can also check the overall environmental contribution of your friends and colleagues who participate in your resource circulation base. PETREE provides services such as 'Courier Delivery - Send to resource recycling shop by cash on delivery' and 'Visit to resource recycling shop directly' for the highest grade of waste PET bottles produced by members. In the future, a direct collection service is also planned.

Using PETREE is easy. The following are ways you can participate in reducing carbon emissions through activities for the PET bottle circulation.
1. Check the grades available for R-PET fiber production through the PETREE app! You can check the resource grade made by PETREE by scanning the barcode on the PET bottle through the app.
2. From the collection request menu, select a resource collection method that suits you and collect it at the PETREE resource recycling shop. There are three main ways. 'Courier: Send by cash on delivery', 'Visit to a recycling store', '(Request collection from PETREE').

Please proceed by selecting 'Courier' in the request for collection in the PETREE app.
Visit the nearest CU convenience store, log in with your PETREE ID, and send it to the resource recycling store. Please check the connection method through the app.
- 'Visit the nearest resource recycling shop'
Check the nearest resource recycling shop to your current location by pressing the GPS button in the app. Currently operating at 4 schools in Jeju Island, Dreamsum in Jeju, Seoul Innovation Park in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, and near Songpanaru Station on Seoul Line 9.
- 'Request collection from PETREE' is currently only available at schools using the PETREE education package. Please inquire about PETREE's participation in the resource circulation base via e-mail.
3. In the contribution menu, you can check the environmental contribution of the PET bottles you have collected. You can also check the environmental contribution of the participating resource circulation bases.
4. You can contribute the points you have accumulated through resource collection activities. It is used to sponsor performances of 'Tree Planting Startups' or 'Opera Time Spider's Web'.
In 2021, all of the donated points will be sponsored in the name of PETREE for the production of a performance of the purely domestic opera 'Time Spider's Web', which deals with the history of the return of Byeonginyangyo and Oegyujanggak Uigwe.
*Creative Opera Time Spider's Web was selected as the new work of the year by the Korean Culture and Arts Committee in 2021.
*The collected PET bottles will be used to make opera stage costumes.
